Declaration of Safety for Tourists in Nikko City
~ Once Again ~
I would like to extend my deepest sympathy to those who have suffered injuries and damages by “the Great East Japan Earthquake” on March 11. Also, may I extend my sincere condolences to the families of disaster victims.
On April 5, the “Declaration of Safety for Tourists in Nikko City” was issued to announce that the water, air, and food were all safe in Nikko and that the city was not directly affected by the earthquake and the accident of Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant.
Then, on April 12, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency at the Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry assessed the accident of Fukushima No. 1 Nuclear Power Plant as “Level 7.”
The radiation dose level of air in Nikko is inspected by an institute of the Tochigi Prefecture. In addition, from April 11, the fixed-point observation was started at 4 different places and the moving observation is also implemented every Wednesday now in the city by itself. Therefore, we are constantly able to verify that it is not the level of threatening our health.
The tap water is also regularly inspected at each water treatment plant in Nikko, and the radiation dose is much below the temporarily-regulated level.
The radiation dose level of farm goods has been also inspected by an institute of the Tochigi Prefecture and is below the temporarily-standard level. Additionally, on April 14, the shipment restriction of Kakina made in Tochigi Prefecture was cancelled. Therefore, there is not a problem with the farm goods.
Please check each inspection result on the Nikko City’s website.
In Nikko City, the water, air, and food are all safe.
All the people of Nikko City will welcome your visit sincerely.
Here is the declaration of safety for tourists in Nikko City once again.
Fumio Saito
Mayor of Nikko City
Tochigi Prefecture
